Detailed DescriptionIn early 2019, Balblair’s core range received a relaunch, eschewing the vintages that had previously adorned the bottles in favour of age statements! This is the entry level expression of the range, a 12 year old single malt matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and double-fired American oak casks. Though the vintages are gone, Balblair’s whisky retains its marvellous creaminess and fruit-forward flavour profile.Balblair 12 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky Tasting NotesNose: Apples, lemons and limes to start, with citrusy cookie dough – oatmeal and candied lemon – with a dusting of golden sugar. Fresh apricot with honey and sultanas follows.Palate: Sweet and fruity, with apple leading the way – apple sauce, freshly sliced and baked with a hint of spice. Vanilla balanced darker notes of liquorice root, dark chocolate and a touch of damp oak.Finish: More biscuits, with apple-studded cookies dusted with cinnamon slowly fading to leave sweet spice.Distillery InformationBalblair Distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery located in Edderton, Ross-shire, Scotland. Founded in 1790, the distillery was rebuilt in 1895 by the designer Charles C Doig to be closer to the Edderton Railway Station on the Inverness and Ross-shire Railway line. However, so good was the original water source that the rebuilt distillery chose to ignore a nearby burn in favour of the original Ault Dearg burn. To this day, the Balblair Distillery continues to use this original water source.
