The name dates back to 1830, when the whiskey was launched by Samuel Gelston, and was purchased by Harry Neill in 1869. It is headquartered west of Tarbock Island, the M62/M57/A5300 junction, off the A5080 and opposite the Chapel Brook Brewers Fayre. There are 400 people on the 30 acre site in Merseyside.
