She was a princess by birth, a warrior by heritage, a lover and a mother by nature. Her great rebellious heart was never forgotten.Grace O’Malley Irish Pirate Queen Irish Whiskey Tasting NotesNose: Pencil shavings, fresh oak, orange peel, vanilla, pear, fresh cream and honey. A touch of spice and oak char adds some nice complexity.Palate: Medium mouthfeel with some chewy oakiness and tannin. A nice mix of vanilla, cream and popcorn combined with malt derived flavours of pear, apple, citrus, and spice. Surprisingly rich for a blended whisky.Finish: Pleasantly warm and spicy. The oakiness persists and add some welcome complexity.Distillery InformationGrace O’Malley is a rather famous figure in Irish history, being a legendary pirate queen in the 16th century. She was born into Irish nobility in Co Mayo in 1530, rising to become a natural leader and fearless mariner throughout her life. An Irish spirits company known as Grace O’Malley Spirits has arisen in this day and age to share her story, and as one of its offerings has a premium blended whiskey it is looking to now import to the United States.
