Detailed Description
The first gin from Japan’s legendary Suntory – Roku Gin. This expression is made using a selection of botanicals, including six Japanese botanicals that provide a whistle-stop tour of the four seasons. These include sakura leaf and sakura flower for spring, sencha tea and gyokuro tea for summer, sansho pepper for autumn and yuzu peel for winter. Traditional gin botanicals also featured include the likes of juniper, orange peel, lemon peel, coriander and cinnamon, among others.
Roku Gin Tasting Notes
Nose: On the nose, the initial burst of yuzu is followed closely by buttery pastries and walnuts.
Palate: Roku eases smoothly on to the palate delivering abundant citrus, butter, toffee, and a hint of juniper.
Finish: Satisfying, spicy finish.
Distillery Information
Founder of Suntory, Shinjiro Torii, decided to begin whisky-making with a passionate desire to “create a perfect whisky that reflects the nature of Japan and the spirit of Japanese craftsmanship.” His decision led him to embark on the difficult business of authentic domestic whisky-making that no one had ever attempted at the time. The history of Suntory whisky and the history of Japanese whisky began by the fearless challenge undertaken Torii, who embarked on whisky-making after prevailing against the opposition he faced.
