Detailed DescriptionBoth Bomberger’s and Shenk’s have been released once again by Michter’s to honor John Shenk, the founder of the original Bomberger Distillery (later known as Michter’s Distillery). If you haven’t heard of Bomberger’s or Shenk’s, you are missing out on some fantastic bourbon! New editions of the hidden gems from Michter’s and yes they put their name on them this time. Great new bottle with hand numbered labels. Bomberger’s stepping it up from the previous 100 Proof to a nice 108 and Shenk’s up from 80 Proof to 91.2 – both adding richness and a heavier mouth coating with these releases.Shenk’s Homestead 2019 Kentucky Sour Mash Whiskey Tasting NotesNose: The nose opens with notes of barrel char and burnt caramel, followed by leather, cacao, a faint touch of red fruit, and faint orange peel oils.Palate: The palate opens with an explosion of thick dark chocolate and maple syrup that is followed by notes of sweet toasted oak, earthy baking spices, orange oils, and charred oak as you continue to chew.Finish: The finish carries on from the palate opening with notes of bitter dark chocolate, toasted oak spice, drying oak tannins, and leaves an herbaceous aftertaste of charred oak and orange oil.Distillery InformationBomberger’s Distillery, more recently Michter’s Distillery, is a non-operating distillery facility that was, at the end of the twentieth century, believed to be the oldest remaining such building in the United States. The distillery closed in 1989 and may have since been demolished.
