Zacharias Winery This Greek winery is the largest private winery of its region and carries a rich historical past. Located just 2 km outside the city of Nemea, on the provincial road of Nemea – Petri, you can find it at the heart of Nemea vineyards, facing the hill where the acropolis of ancient Fliounda used to dominate. At ancient times, the area was called “fliassio field” and gave its name to the famous “fliassios oenos”, i.e. wine from Fliassia country (Nemea). There were three basic stages that lead the winery to its today’s form. The first was its establishment in 1960. The second was its expansion in 1973, in accordance with the finest French standards. The third was in 1997, when Zacharias family became the sole owners of the winery and gave it the form it has today in 2004. Ever since they introduced the French expertise to Nemea, the family has been investing in the constant improvement and modernization of their business. They have reached a point where they can smoothly combine traditional elements with contemporary methods and equipment. At the winery, one can find French type concrete tanks and state of the art technology, such as stainless steel Ganymede tanks, cross-flow filters, pneumatic presses, vinificators, refrigerators etc. Furthermore, the winery is fully equipped with an underground cellar, a modern bottling unit and a high quality lab-control, ensuring the highest hygienic conditions for all its products. However, improvement is an ongoing process. New ideas and plans for a better future will never cease to exist for Zacharias family. Keeping up with the technological developments is an essential aim, along with energy saving and respect towards the environment.
